The JPR National Jewish Identity Survey

JVL Introduction

The Institute for Jewish Policy Research is running a national survey into lives and attitudes of Jews in Britain.

We think it important that the voices we speak for are represented in any picture of the range and diversity of views among Jews in Britain today. So please consider responding to this request for information and invite your friends to do likewise.

Make sure our voices are heard.

Otherwise others will claim to speak in your name

The Institute for Jewish Policy Research writes:

The JPR National Jewish Identity Survey is designed to provide in-depth information about the lives and attitudes of Jews in the UK. The data will be used to help organisations to support Jewish life now and in the future.

We are interested in your experiences and views regardless of the strength of your Jewish identity or how connected you do, or do not, feel to the community. Any responses you provide will be anonymised and all personal details will be stored securely. It will not be possible to link your personal details to the answers you provide. Visit our privacy page to find out more.

If you are already a member of the JPR Research Panel, please check your emails for your own unique link to take part in the National Jewish Identity Survey. Otherwise, sign up to the Panel so we can send you your personalised link to take part.

This takes less than two minutes and means you’ll have the opportunity to take part in up to four surveys a year.

Every survey is voluntary – you are under no obligation to take part – and you are free to withdraw from the Panel at any time. Each time you choose to participate in a survey, you will have a chance to win one of five £100 vouchers.

Rather strange position: ‘National Jewish Identity’ and ‘how connected you do, or do not, feel to the community.’ Some presuppositions there.

In spite of some presuppositions, for the most part the survey is pretty well drafted and I felt it was possible to stay true to myself and to answer its questions. Certainly secular Jews and non/antiZionist Jews are fully recognised and well catered for! As the introduction makes clear, it is important that as many Jews as possible who are secular/left wing/non or antiZionist etc complete the survey, so that a rounded story of Jewish identities in Britain in 2022 is collated.

I answered the questionnaire on Friday. It feels good to be on the JPR research list.

Is there a category for those who don’t identify as Jewish although others say they are?
