Tell Rishi Sunak and Liz Truss: Scrap the Rwanda plan if elected PM

Dear supporter,Edie photo 2011

It was a huge relief when the first Rwanda deportation flight was cancelled last month. And in further welcome news, the government has confirmed that the policy is on hold until a new Prime Minister is chosen.

But this respite is only temporary. Appallingly, both Conservative leadership candidates have pledged to support and expand the Rwanda plan.

The case against this cruel approach is clear. Just last week, a report from the Home Affairs Committee found “no clear evidence” that it would work. And extraordinary revelations have disclosed that the Home Secretary ignored the UK High Commissioner to Rwanda’s advice not to sign a deal, due to fears that refugees could be forced into joining the country’s army.

Our community must make its voice clear: deporting any asylum seekers to Rwanda would be utterly unconscionable, and would fly in the face of Jewish values.

A change in leadership offers this country a fresh chance to show itself as compassionate and outward looking. As British Jews, it is critical that we continue the stand up against this appalling policy. Read on to find out how you can take action today.

Many thanks in advance,
