Statement from the Celtic Supporters Association

JVL Introduction

Celtic Supporters Association has issued a strong statement of support for the Palestinian people and assertion of the right of fans to express political views on the terraces, reminding us all that the club “was born out of famine and oppression, a product of colonial rule, death and the mass displacement of people”.

It points out that political support was welcome at Celtic Park over Ukraine but is condemned now, and asks: “Why are Ukrainian lives more important than Palestinian lives?”

It ends with a call to Celtic supporters to stand on the right side of history: “Now more than ever, the Palestinian people need our solidarity.”

People are making their own mind up about the appalling events in Israel/Palestine and our Government don’t like that. Both parties in this conflict are guilty of war crimes and murdering civilians, but only one side is continuing to do so and planning to escalate the carnage. Jeremy Corbyn is right, this needs a political solution not a military one

Brilliant statement from the Celtic fans, much needed when democratic rights are being trampled here as Gaza is being flattened.

I absolutely support these words. We cannot stand in silence as the Palestinians are further abused by the Zionist state. They should be able to remain in and on their land and not be forced to flee by a country breaking international law yet again.

Many of us have seen what the creation of Israel has done to the people of Palestine it is a Zionist philosophy that created hatred & discrimination not Judaism itself !
I am hopeful that everyone with compassion sees through the fascist excuses & like these amazing Celtic fans ignores the most racist two Home Secretaries we’ve had !

I hope that support like this grows around the sporting world. Sports clubs were a factor in changing the Apartheid South Africa.
With what’s happening to Palestinians in Gaza right now, it is likely to move other sportsmen and women to show their solidarity with Palestine, this I hope will rub off on the fans and lead to clubs refusing to compete against Israel, isolating them like they did South Africa.
