JVL Introduction

Democracy Now! marked six devastating months since October 7 by broadcasting a conversation between two authoritative figures supremely well equipped to summarise where we are now.

Speaking from Ramallah in the occupied West Bank, Palestinian physician and politician Dr. Mustafa Barghouti who serves as general secretary of the Palestinian National Initiative, says some Western leaders are at last responding to growing worldwide outrage against Israel. This is largely due to regular people who have been protesting in solidarity with Palestinians. “We have to thank the people of these countries,” says Barghouti.

Writer Muhammad Shehada, chief of communications at Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor and a columnist at The Forward, a Jewish weekly in New York, says the last six months have exposed the Israeli military’s “complete disregard for human life.” This is exemplified by summary executions, torture and other crimes that are routine yet rarely reported in corporate Western media. He also highlights  a Euro-Med report demonstrating a deliberate starvation policy including targeting of aid trucks.

Ethnic cleansing verging on genocide. Starvation is a deliberate policy of Genocide. Opening new crossings to let what through exactly? (Not enough to feed a mouse). The US building a port? Delaying tactic! In a war situation, the US could flood an area like Gaza with food and other supplies in hours if its own troops required those supplies. This is deliberate starvation. An act of genocide.
