What lies beyond Israel’s war of vengeance – Daniel Levy

Introduction to “The Big Picture Podcast” by Middle East Eye

Under the blinding influence of fury and revenge after the October 7 attack, Israel has waged a relentless war in Gaza which killed more than 11,000 Palestinians and displaced more than 1.5 million people.

But beyond its stated aim to eliminate Hamas, there seems to be no plan for what happens the day after, or what would stop the wheel of violence from continuing to spin.

This week on The Big Picture podcast, we sit down with former Israeli negotiator and analyst Daniel Levy, who now heads the US-Middle East Project.

Levy argues that despite the terrifying language now normal within Israeli society, there is still an offramp, and even a road to peace.

More bullshit! What’s happened to you guys? Are you anti-semites? Is that it?
Although there is undoubtedly much fury I have seen no signs of revenge. What on earth are you talking about? A vengeful state would have flattened Gaza within hours leaving no-one alive to tell the tale – just a pile of rubble. Like Dresden or Hiroshima – remember?
Instead in an operation designed to minimise civilian casualties (think! how remarkable only 10 000 dead and no combattants among them) yet putting its own troops at great risk Israel is working its way through Gaza from north to south removing terrorists as it goes and looking for the hostages illegally held by the terrorists there.
That’s the reality of the situation. Unlike any other army civilians are given warning of every attack giving them a chance to flee and there is a pause for 4 hours every day as well.
Where are the signs of vengerance? Just the other day Israel supplied incunbators and other equipment to Al Shifa and now are shipping fule too. How spiteful
