On the road from Damascus (Gate)

JVL Introduction

Here is a remarkable account by a young American Jew, Shlomo Yitzhak, telling of his awakening from a lifetime of fear-filled myths.

Unlike many Jewish people who take years to gradually shed their adherence to the settler colonial project, Shlomo describes a sudden conversion, as a student in an all-male nationalist seminary in Jerusalem enlightened by an encounter with a Palestinian who invited him to Ramallah.

“The first though that rose in my minds [was] if I go you will kill me, because that was the way I was conditioned growing up. For me Palestinians were terrorists…”

But a second voice said go…

And Shlomo went and has never looked back as he recounts in the TikTok video below

I agree with Margaret, ‘phew’ and how brave because I know that Shlomo will have suffered gross repercussions for speaking out. People like him are the only way that Israel will come to a two state solution with Palestinians
