Voices of Resistance – Liberation Seder for Gaza 2024

Palestine Trauma Centre is helping children to hang on to childhood. This is the sort of work we raise funds for

This year’s Liberation Seder took place on Thursday 25th April in the seventh month of Israel’s worst assault on Gaza and the critical increase in violence against Palestinians in the West Bank.  Led by Rabbi Lev Taylor with wonderful contributions from children from the Neslen family, many Seder participants and a powerful message from a journalist from Gaza (40’16).  We also shared several videos, about the terrible impact for the people, particularly for journalists and our spirits were lifted with the video showing the astonishing resilience of those working so hard so that children can keep some sense of a childhood, in the camps to which people have been displaced, in the remains of the schools and on the beaches.  There were also contributions from three celebrity supporters, Maxine Peake reads a poem by Nadeem Mutaja (56′), then an appeal from The British Shalom Salaam Trust Patron, Miriam Margolyes (58’45) and a stunning rendition of ‘We Shall Overcome” from Charlotte Church (1 hr 9’).  All three have stood up for justice for Palestinians and been attacked for their stand. It was a bonus to have their contributions and solidarity.

We trust that you will enjoy this and here is the 2024 Haggadah. One of the aims of the Seder was to raise funds for the valuable work of the British Shalom Salaam Trust and we hope you will donate so that they can continue to support projects in Gaza and in the West Banks.

It was wonderful to have almost 150 people on the zoom from many different countries on a range of time zones join us for the baruchas, wine, matzos, questions and answers.

Our Liberation Seders are to show our support for Palestinians but as Nelson Mandela said “we know too well that our freedom is incomplete without the freedom of the Palestinians.” So this is for all of us, everyone deserves freedom and justice.
