Libel Case Against Naomi Wimborne-Idrissi and Jewish Voice for Labour

Crowdfunder appeal by Naomi Wimborne-Idrissi, Richard Kuper, JVL

Lawyers: Simons Muirhead Burton LLP, United Kingdom

Case Owner: Naomi Wimborne-Idrissi, Richard Kuper, JVL

We are JVL Officers being sued by John Ware over criticisms of his work

John Ware, presenter of the BBC Panorama programme “Is Labour Antisemitic?” broadcast in July 2019, is suing Jewish Voice for Labour and two of its officers over their criticisms of his work.

For the past 15 months, Ware’s libel writ has been hanging over the individuals named:

  • Naomi Wimborne-Idrissi, who was interviewed by Jeremy Vine on Radio 2 the day after the programme was screened
  • Richard Kuper, editor of JVL’s online blog which published reports on the subject
  • JVL as an organisation is also in the firing line, under sustained pressure because of the potentially crippling costs of defending a libel action while we are also battling on many other fronts.

We are now fundraising to cover our ongoing extensive legal costs in defending this libel case, and to ensure that we can cover the other side’s costs if necessary.

We appreciate there are many calls on your finances, but this case is very important to JVL and its supporters and we ask you to give generously.

Your card will only be charged if the case meets its target of £10,000 by Nov. 07, 2021, 4 p.m.

In the unlikely event that we raise more than we need, we will ensure that any unused funds are transferred to fund other case(s) that support JVL principles (see www.jvl.org.uk).

Please also share on all your networks. Thank you for your support.

  • George Wilmers says:

For some reason John Ware has decided not to pursue a libel case against Jeremy Corbyn despite repeated threats to do so. Could that in any way be related to the success of crowdfunding for Corbyn’s legal defence fund which has now reached more than £370,000?

Unfortunately, despite an obvious community of interest, the left has not always been very well organised in the manner in which crowdfunding for legal actions or defence is formally set up and advertised. In order to maximise contributions it is important that potential donors know that any excess funds will be used in an appropriate way, which should be specified as far as possible. For that reason I welcome JVL’s statement above concerning the use of potentially unused funds, and I would strongly encourage OTHER left funding appeals to provide similar accounting guarantees. It is not a good strategy to convey the impression that all such cases will be lost (!), and if one of them is won with costs awarded there could well be excess funds at the end.

Do we know specifically what is meant by “criticism of his work “ means? Surely criticism can’t be libellous unless it knowingly uses untrue statements or opinion? I have donated to the fund and dearly hope we can nail the truth and not let anyone get away with woolly or vague ideas and statements.

Guardian’s J Freedland is attacking Facebook. FB is a vehicle for much of the opposition to Freedland and the Guardian’s frantic vilification of Corbyn and the left in general.
J Ware is threatening to sue the JVL, having realised that the Corbyn defence fund is too much for him.
Battle lines are being drawn, socialism and freedom of speech are the targets.
Never thought I’d say it but I stand with Facebook against the Guardian!

    George Wilmers
It needs to be a single fund, one for all and all for one
The legal process is weighted against us, so also need to carefully pick and choose our fights
The JC fund has proved that size does matter

I agree entirely with George Wilmers and the same thought occurred to me.

I shall certainly contribute – albeit a small amount.

I was and still am furious that the Starmer/Evans dictatorship immediately capitulated to the Ware/panorama-stars’ threats of legal action. My argument was that some of the threats would not get as far as the courts and some (all?) that pursued the legal course to fruition would lose. But the fact that the decision to pay up (£millions ?) like lambs was taken without democratic authority by a QC, knowing that threats of legal action are often made with no intention of carrying them out: simply that….mere threats, was stupid and disgraceful.

Starmer/Evans didn’t capitulate Eddie, and they were fully on board with the fake A/S black op smear campaign against Jeremy and the left (as has become more than evident during the past fifteen months or so!). The LP was advised by their legal team that they would almost definitely win the case if they defended it, BUT, if they HAD defended AND won, then THAT of course would have not only been massively damaging to John Ware and the Panorama team AND the BBC for defending the program, but it would have ALSO vindicated Jeremy, and THAT is the last thing Starmer and Co and the PTB wanted, and they were never-ever going to allow it to happen.

John Ware is also suing Paddy French of ‘Press Gang’ over his very good pamphlet ‘Is the BBC anti-Labour?’ and I have contributed to this fund as well. Given that all these actions are essentially about the same thing and I assume that the same solicitor (the usual suspect) is acting for Ware in all of them I would hope that there is some co-ordination between the defendants

I have on several occasions drawn readers attention to the phony and fraudulent ‘survey’ the CAA posted on its brand new website back in January 2015, and did so again just recently. So, in the process of doing a search on their website a bit earlier I just happened to come across the following piece in the Jewish Chronicle from Jan 22nd, 2015, written by Gideon Falter (the chair of the CAA), and these clips from it are self-explanatory:

Last week Campaign Against Antisemitism published a thorough and professional “antisemitism barometer”. We commissioned YouGov to poll the British public’s attitudes towards Jews and surveyed the Jewish community’s reactions to antisemitism ourselves………

Some Jewish communal bodies and even the JC, however, reacted negatively, both to our findings and CAA itself. They attacked our methodology and the results of the survey and instead assured the community and population at large that everything was fine………

Our methodology is in the full report available at http://www.antisemitism.uk and we are happy to answer questions.

Right, so given the criticisms made about their alleged survey, you would of course think the link takes you to a page which provides proof that their survey was legitimate. But you’d be wrong! But then it’s often the case with those who lie and fabricate – and deceive – that they then have to lie and fabricate and (try to) deceive FURTHER.

I contributed early this morning and observed that the JVL legal defence fund is racking up well. English civil law, especally for defamation or libel, is much about the money, of course.

Allen Howard has put it well amidst the additional comments here. In my observation also, Starmer deliberately sold out to encourage the bad stuff (unilaterally giving away about £600K of Party funds, contributed by us) to do down Jeremy, to do down many of the members and to wreck the Party.

How Starmer must be laughing at how criticism of the State of Israel is the official widespread version of ‘antisemitism’, as in nearly all MS media, leaving him free to conduct real antisemitism against Socialist British Jews.

There is nothing John Ware says, writes, complains about, witnesses that is credible or trustworthy.
His contribution to politics, life, shopping, religions is totally useless & benefits no one but his own inflated ego.
There that’s my opinion & I’m entitled to have one!
Others have proof about John Wares obvious hate campaigns against those who disagree with him, maybe he should live elsewhere? Now where is best for Ware to go????
