JVL’s Naomi Wimborne-Idrissi is standing for the NEC

JVL's NEC candidate Naomi Wimborne-Idrissi

Jewish Voice for Labour’s Media Officer, Naomi Wimborne-Idrissi, has joined the race for nominations from Constituency Labour Parties for candidates to represent members on Labour’s National Executive Committee.

Her candidate statement posted on the Labour Party’s website by the Feb 25 deadline, says:

“If elected I will work with comrades to re-energise embattled grassroots members, advocating against militarism; for international solidarity with the oppressed; and for collective mobilisation in unions, CLPs and communities where resistance is building against racist threats, crumbling public services and attacks on working conditions.

“I will stand firm against proscription of left groupings; defend those unjustly accused; oppose antidemocratic actions by the leadership; and commit to open communication with members.”

CLPs have until noon on June 17 to nominate candidates for up to nine NEC places. Voting by members will take place between July 8 and August 5.

JVL is working together with others on the left to maximise representation of grassroots socialist members on the party’s executive body.  As Naomi says in her statement:

“Let’s face it – the left in the Labour Party is under existential threat. The policy gains and the process of democratisation under Jeremy Corbyn’s leadership are being jettisoned. The response has to be solidarity and unity.”

If it weren’t somewhat inappropriate, I would be saying ‘fingers crossed!’. Good luck, anyway! Hope you smash it!

    Power to your elbow, ma’am.

I hope you succeed, although speaking for myself, I have given up on the Labour Party, despite having a family connection to the Labour Party that dates back to its earliest days.

PS. I have spoken to you and your colleagues on the phone in the past and was struck by your kindness and interest towards someone who was merely an ordinary member of the public.

I sincerely hope I’m wrong but why might I detect an “administrative suspension” or some other similar stratagem somewhere in my bones. Good luck Naomi!

I hope this is the moment we find out if there is a democratic bone left in the Labour party body

Lets hope Labour have revised their alphabetically listed on-line ballots for the NEC, which gives prominence to the first 6-8 candidates. This disadvantaged nearly everyone else, but particularly those with surnames towards the end of the alphabet. I fear they haven’t, despite the solution being straightforward. See:

Anyone who cares about democracy in the LP should vote for Naomi. It is tragic of course that it doesn’t include anyone at the top of the leadership or the bureaucracy. Naomi will have her work cut out to minimise the influence of the Zionists who now control the Party but good luck to her anyway.

Starmer has destroyed all the values that the labour party stood for
honesty, decency truth, and support of those who need help. I hope that Ms Wimborne-Idrissi gets in, we need a voice in Parliament as there are far too few now, thanks to starmer and his nest of self serving traitors

Well done Naomi. It’s obvious how desperately the left need a strong voice in the NEC and how the country needs saving from the disastrous damage being inflicted on it by the Tories and their millionaire cronies. You have already demonstrated so much strength and determination to stand up for what is right in your dealings with the GLU. Thank you for putting yourself forward for the benefit of those without a voice and for what is just.

Well I will stay a bit longer to use my vote to support you but after the way Zara Sultana was treated and the obsequiousness of the SCG I dont hold much hope for the future of the LP as a socialist organisation

At last I can do something and give my vote to Naomi, after hanging on to my membership by a whisper, some good can come of it,
if we can get more good people from the left on the NEC, all good wishes in her efforts.

    ‘Polite’ have tried:
“Please May we have our Labour Party back?” Result=Expulsion. So maybe just snatch it back (does that mean I have to join? 😳) I was a Young Socialist, &, overtime, I joined the Welsh Communist Party, the Greens & Plaid Cymru. But basically I’m an Anarchist & would do anything to stop the present downward spiral. Pawb Lwc comrade
