Political parties in Britain: views on racial prejudice, immigration and under-represented groups

Racial prejudice by political party over time

Dr Alan Maddison reviews the evidence about the main political parties in Britain and shows that:

1. Conservative voters have led the way on racial prejudice for over 30 years
2. Conservative Party members had more negative views on immigration
3. Conservative Party members were far less inclined to want more MPs from already under-represented groups.

He concludes: “In order to help reduce prejudice in our society, Labour Party members seem to be far more trustworthy than members of the Conservative Party.”

Which political party members can we trust most to help reduce prejudice in British society?
