This is like Mike Segalov’s recent one. Both set to appalling background music. Both also refer vaguely to antisemitism on the left, mostly on social media. I take issue with this because we are in danger of losing critical faculties when material on Twitter or Facebook is produced as evidence, but no names are named. There is certainly nothing in what she says about the Labour party. Who on earth is the ‘left-wing mentor’?

I’m sure that the intention is good.

But this naively omits too much of the picture – such as the role of the right using the issue in whipping up fears, the inexcusable confected hysteria of the BoD nexus pursuing sectarian ends, and – critically – the actively nefarious role of the Israeli Hasbara programme.

It dismisses too easily the genuine offence of those in the Labour Party who have never held antisemitic views (yes – the perception of offence isn’t one -sided), and who testify that they have never seen antisemitism within the Party.

Above all – Israel isn’t just a far-away country. It is a country whose government is engaged in ethnic cleansing – with the permission and support of our government.

My first thoughts exactly….some vague generalisations and no evidence on anti-Semitism. I have no reason not to believe her that she has experienced anti Semitism . But when she says that “when she says she is Jewish people ask her about Israel and that this response is (of itself) anti-Semitic) I think she lost the plot a bit thern. I certainly did. So there is a conflation of anti-Semitism on the left and anti-Semitism in Labour. I am passionately against anti-Semitism , and this is a quite long and drifting but largely useful message to those who lack both sensitivity and discipline or historical knowledge.

The first one and a half minutes are generally okay.

Unfortunately, the video lasts for just over five minutes.

There is virtue-signalling – I boycott Israeli goods!

There is more virtue-signalling – We must never curtail freedom of speech about Palestine!

There is even more virtue-signalling – The Labour Party is one of the few spaces where Palestinian voices are heard!

There is a potted history of antisemitism from medieval England to the years immediately after the Second World War – meaning that it stops just when it could start to become interesting.

But help is at hand – the left has the tools at it disposal to sort this problem out (implying that the problem is external to the left).

After a pointless sideswipe at Owen Smith, the video culminates in the obligatory Corbyn-cultism – Jez’ll fix it.

Pretty pathetic and politically useless in other words.

I can only endorse the general tenor of the comments above. The general intellectual poverty, patronising tone, and obvious omissions of difficult issues are hardly likely to convince, even when aided by the mind numbing muzack of the kind used by supermarketsf to impede logical reasoning and speed up a customer’s decision to purchase, which presumably was also the intention here.

I’m not sure why JVL felt it necessary to repost this video which is quite at variance with the high quality of most of its posts. Was it just because it is an official production from Momentum, or was it designed to elicit the kind of criticisms which have been made above?
