Bloomberg analysis shows support for populist right at 30 year high

A Bloomberg analysis from December 2017 provides an illuminating examination of the rising tide of anti-immigrant and populist sentiment that is sweeping aside or weakening mainstream party politics across the continent.

Dissecting decades of election results across 22 European countries, it reveals that support for populist radical-right parties was higher last year than at any time over the past 30 years. Things have not got any better since.

    An interesting analysis. But – although implied – the situation of the UK isn’t really explicit in terms of the map. The fact is that the extreme right has dictated the politics of one of the two major parties as UKIP has faded.
