Moshe Machover – no end in sight

Moshe Machover – demand an apology and an inquiry

Many Labour Party members were shocked last autumn when the staunch and principled socialist campaigner and critic of Israel Moshe Machover was summarily excluded from the Labour Party. As you know the outrage of members and CLPs round the country got him reinstated.

He has never received an apology. The charge of antisemitism against him has never been withdrawn. There has been no inquiry.

Now Moshe has written to the Labour Party demanding that it does what it should have done right away:

  • Withdraw the unsubstantiated slur of antisemitism that was levelled against him and never rescinded
  • Issue an apology for the completely unwarranted action that was taken
  • Establish an independent inquiry into just who was involved in this misuse of Party disciplinary processes.

His letter can be downloaded here.

Please promote a motion supporting his call in your branch or CLP. We need that inquiry, so that we can get these attempts to purge and intimidate the Party stopped once and for all. (For erlier resolutions passed by various branches and CLPs see our posting After Machover’s reinstatement – moving forward)

JVL has drafted a motion that we hope you will propose in party branches and at CLP level:

This branch/CLP

noting

the summary and misguided exclusion of Moshe Machover, a greatly respected comrade, from the Labour Party following the Brighton Conference; and

his grudging readmission within a month following motions of protest from CLPs round the country

calls for

i) An explicit withdrawal of the unjustified allegation of antisemitism against Moshe Machover contained in the messages to him from the Party’s Head of Disputes, which was never retracted

ii) A public apology from the Labour Party for its inappropriate and ill-founded action

iii) A full and independent inquiry, whose report should be made available without redaction to Party members, into the circumstances and processes involved, and those individuals responsible for bringing the party into disrepute in this way.
